In this episode we speak with NEXUS Pilot Grant Recipients, Dr. Brenda Bowen, Dr. Shane MacFarlan and Jory Lerback. Their research explores the complex sociohydrologic framework of water resource availability, use, and sustainability in remote arid highland communities of the Sierra de la Giganta in Baja California Sur, Mexico, and works to address the mismatches between hydrologic and geologic controls on water resources, and the social systems that have evolved within those constraints.
Episode 3 - The Influence of Web-Based Hate on Bias-Motivated Criminal Behavior w/ Dr. Emily Nicolosi
In this episode we begin our discussions with NEXUS Pilot Grant Recipients. Dr. Emily Nicolosi worked with Dr. Rich Medina on his project about The Influence of Web-Based Hate on Bias-Motivated Criminal Behavior. The overarching objective of this research is to examine barriers to victim and police reporting of hate crimes and to leverage these insights to inform the further development of our mobile application (the Hate Crime Reporting System). The Hate Crime Reporting System (HIRS) will help identify hotspots and trends of hate and better target law enforcement efforts, policy design, and community support programs.
